Anticipation is high as preparations reach top gear for the 2nd Edition of the Senator Tokunbo Abiru Mixed Table Tennis Championship, scheduled to serve off from Wednesday, October 30th to November 1st, 2025, at the Molade Okoya Indoor Sports Hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos State.
The championship, initiated by Senator Tokunbo Abiru, the Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, is fast becoming one of the region’s most anticipated sporting events aiming at promoting youth development, sportsmanship, and community engagement through the game of table tennis.
Speaking ahead of the competition, representative of the Senator Abiru Constituency Team (SACT) , Mr. Enitan Olukotun expressed confidence that this year’s edition would surpass the inaugural tournament in both participation and organization. He noted that the event continues to unearth raw sporting talents across Lagos East, offering a platform for young men and women to showcase their skills.
“This championship is part of Senator Abiru’s broader commitment to youth empowerment and community development through sports. We expect a vibrant turnout, thrilling matches, and great entertainment for spectators”. Olukotun said.
The maiden edition, held in 2024, was widely praised for its organization and exciting displays of skill. This year’s event promises to build on that momentum, with improved logistics, professional officiating, and increased community involvement.
Local residents have expressed enthusiasm about the championship’s return, noting that it not only promotes physical fitness and recreation but also fosters unity among youths in the district.

Meanwhile, as the countdown begins, table tennis fans across Lagos East eagerly await the first serve, ready to witness another round of fast-paced rallies, spectacular smashes, and sporting camaraderie — all under the banner of the Senator Abiru Mixed Table Tennis Championship.
