The Somolu Local Government has taken decisive steps to enhance public safety as the administration of the Executive Chairman, Hon. Lateef Ashimi, completed urgent repairs and secured exposed manholes at the busy Morocco Junction.
The intervention followed concerns raised by residents and road users over the dangers posed by uncovered manholes along the high-traffic corridor. Acting swiftly, the Ashimi-led administration moved repair teams to the site, restoring the affected manholes and reinforcing safety measures to prevent avoidable accidents involving motorists, commuters, and pedestrians.
Addressing the development, Chairman Ashimi described the action as part of his administration’s proactive approach to governance-one that prioritizes the safety and welfare of residents over rhetoric. He issued a stern warning to individuals engaged in removing manhole covers and other public infrastructure, stressing that such acts of vandalism constitute a serious threat to lives and will not be tolerated.
The Chairman further assured residents that the local government remains committed to systematic road safety improvements across the area. According to him, repair teams will soon be deployed to other identified locations, including Bajulaiye-Folagoro and Abiodun Junction, as part of an ongoing effort to secure roads and public spaces.
He reaffirmed the administration’s resolve to continue addressing infrastructure challenges promptly, noting that safeguarding lives and property remains central to the council’s development agenda.
With these measures, the Ashimi-led administration reiterated its pledge to build a safer, more orderly Somolu-one junction at a time.
