On Wednesday, September 24, 2025, the Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Lateef Ashimi, lauded the Lagos State Government (LASG) for its significant initiative — providing free healthcare services to all retired government workers across the state.
The medical outreach, facilitated by the Public Service Office and Lagos State Health District II, drew beneficiaries to Okemetta Primary School in Somolu for treatment, drug collection, and further consultation. This follows a similar free healthcare programme in the area just five days prior, which was championed by Fidson in collaboration with the Somolu Local Government.
In a statement released by Hon. Ashimi, he commended the move as a substantial demonstration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to the welfare of those who dedicated their lives to public service.
“This move by the Lagos State Government is not just important, but a profound expression of gratitude and respect for our senior citizens. Ensuring that our retirees have access to quality, cost-free medical care is a crucial step towards giving them a dignified and secure post-service life,” he stated.
Chairman Ashimi, represented by the Medical Officer of Health (MOH), Dr. Agboola Abidemi, strongly encouraged all eligible retirees within the community to take full advantage of this generous provision. He further assured them of the local government’s continuous support in liaising with state agencies to ensure seamless access to the benefits.
He concluded by affirming the Somolu administration’s commitment to aligning with the state’s ‘Greater Lagos’ vision by prioritising social welfare and public health for its residents.
