In a move to support grassroots education and promote academic readiness ahead of the new school term, the immediate past Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. AbdulHamed Salawu (‘Dullar’), has called on parents and guardians to place high priority on the education of their children.
The distributed items included school bags, exercise books, and writing materials, among other essentials, aimed at reducing the financial burden on parents and encouraging school attendance.
“As a parent, leader, and advocate for youth development, I believe that education is the greatest investment we can make in our children’s future. We must not allow economic challenges to deny our children access to quality education,” he said.
He further urged parents to be proactive in monitoring their children’s academic progress and to collaborate more with teachers and school authorities in order to achieve the set goals..
Though no longer in office, Hon. Dullar reiterated his continued commitment to the educational advancement of Somolu youth highlighting several education-focused initiatives launched during his administration, including scholarship schemes, school infrastructure upgrades, and support for teachers.
“This is not about holding office; it’s about holding on to our responsibility to the people. Education was a top priority during my administration, and it will remain a cause I champion for the rest of my life,” he stated.
Teachers and school heads also lauded the gesture, describing it as a morale booster for students returning to school.
The event concluded with group photographs and a symbolic presentation of school kits to selected pupils.
Hon. Dullar promised to continue advocating for better funding and policies to strengthen public education, especially at the local level.
This gesture stands as a timely reminder of the importance of communal effort in building a more educated and empowered society as schools resume for the new academic session.
