Lagos Assembly member, Hon. Orekoya, holds Constituency Stakeholders’ Meeting

…awards bursaries to 147 indigent students, grants full scholarships to three

The Honourable Member representing Somolu Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Abiodun Abimbola Orekoya, on Thursday, September 4, 2025, convened a Constituency Stakeholders’ Meeting to present an account of his stewardship and engage with constituents on their pressing needs.

The event, which was held at the newly completed Somolu Local Government Council Administrative Complex in Bashua, Lagos, brought together political leaders, community stakeholders, and residents of the constituency.

In his address, Hon. Orekoya emphasized the importance of the forum as a platform for dialogue between elected representatives and their constituents.

According to him, the Lagos State House of Assembly organized simultaneous constituency meetings across all constituencies, with the objective of identifying grassroots needs for inclusion in the upcoming state budget.

“This forum allows us to hear directly from the people. It is part of our legislative responsibility to return home, listen to our constituents, and reflect their needs in the budget,” Hon. Orekoya stated.

Similarly, in his address, the Executive Chairman of Somolu local government, Hon. Lateef Ashimi described the Hon. Orekoya as a Political leader and great mobilizer whose political acumen has further place Somolu in good light. Hon. Ashimi never hesitate to commend him for empowering the people of his constituency when and where the need be.

“Hon. Orekoya has continued to empower his people, and his actions are worthy of recognition”. He said.

A key highlight of the meeting was the presentation of bursary awards to 147 indigent students from Somolu who are currently enrolled in various tertiary institutions. In a bid to further alleviate financial burdens on families, Hon. Orekoya also announced full scholarships for three exceptional students who attained a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.1 and above.

Echoing this sentiment, the immediate past chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. AbdulHamed Salawu’ Dullar’, lauded the Assembly member’s consistent commitment to good governance and grassroots development.

Also present at the event, the former ALGON President and immediate past Chairman of Bariga LCDA, Hon. Kolade David Alabi, praised Hon. Orekoya’s efforts, particularly for his support to students and his facilitation of the ongoing construction of the Somolu Sporting Complex. “He has shown that he truly has the interest of the people at heart,” Alabi noted.

Dignitaries who graced the event included former Senator and member of the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council (GAC), Senator Anthony Adefuye; the Executive Chairman of Somolu local government, Hon. Lateef Ashimi, the Vice Chairman of Somolu LG, Hon. Taiwo Ojomu; former Sole Administrator of Somolu LG, Hon. Bamidele Williams Lawanson; Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. James Oyeyiola; former SLG of Somolu, Hon. Ademola Olisa Adefalujo; Chairman of the Apex Leaders Somolu/Bariga, Apostle Peter Oyewusi; Apex leader, Alhaji Fatai Bakare; Apex leader Niyi Osibemekun (Jackal), ward leaders, religious leaders, and other notable community stakeholders.

The forum concluded with an open-floor session where constituents shared their concerns and suggestions, reinforcing the democratic ethos of participatory governance and community inclusion championed by Hon. Orekoya.
