Tragedy as seven vehicles involved in fatal accident on Apapa-Oshodi Expressway

The Lagos Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed a tragic multi-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 11:55 a.m. today, Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Cele Bus Stop on the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway.

The accident involved seven vehicles and a total of sixteen persons—twelve males and four females. Sadly, one male lost his life in the incident, while six others—four males and two females—sustained varying degrees of injuries.

FRSC operatives from the RS2.114 Isolo Unit Command arrived at the scene within five minutes of the incident, following a crash alert received at exactly 12:00 p.m.

MACK Truck (Blue) – Registration: KSF 593 YA

Volkswagen Bus (Yellow) – Registration: LSR 02 YJ

Suzuki Bus (Yellow) – Registration: AFK 739 XA

Volkswagen Bus (Yellow) – Registration: JJJ 32 XV

Volkswagen Bus (Yellow) – Registration: FST 734 XZ

Mercedes Benz Car (Red) – Registration: FFF 779 TK

Toyota Highlander Jeep (Gold) – Registration: RBC 667 ML

Preliminary investigation reveals that the crash was triggered by a brake failure in the MACK truck, which consequently caused a chain collision involving the six other vehicles.

Emergency response teams swiftly evacuated the injured victims to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention, while the deceased was conveyed to the mortuary.

Personnel from the FRSC, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and the Nigeria Police Force remain on-site, managing traffic flow and overseeing the removal of vehicles to clear the expressway.

Lagos Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde G. Hamzat, extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and emphasized the importance of routine vehicle maintenance, especially among operators of heavy-duty and commercial vehicles.

“We must prioritize routine vehicle checks, especially on critical systems like brakes. This crash is a sad reminder of the need for shared responsibility and caution on our roads,” he stated.
