The 2nd Edition of free ICT/Tech Skillshop organized by Somolu Local Government in conjunction with TechSheperd has finally come to an end amid fanfare as stakeholders, and participants showered praises on the sponsor and the council Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. AbdulHamed Salawu ‘Dullar’ for his heart of gold.
The programme which paraded over 100 registered youths was put together to nurture talent, and foster self-sufficiency in the areas of front-end Web development, and UI/UX Design which will allow them to contribute their quota to the development of the community, Lagos, and Nigeria at large.
Quoting one of the participants, Lukmon Idrees who wrote on his social media handle described the four-day free tech bootcamp as a topnotch initiative that will not only allow them to be self-sufficiency in their chosen area but also become ambassadors of their community, state, and country.
He continued, “Great leaders leave their everlasting mark on the sand of time. This is an outstanding contribution we’re yet to see from any other LG. Thank you Hon. Abdul Hameed Salawu aka Dullar, we appreciate your efforts in making this ICT SKILL SHOP a reality and the impact you’re making in the lives of youths in Somolu. And special gratitude to Tech Shepherd and our great facilitators”.
Similarly, Oyewole Muhammed Jamiu in his submission also appreciated the council chairman, Hon. AbdulHamed Salawu ‘Dullar’ for this opportunity given to them while he promised to use the opportunity well and pass the knowledge to the next generation.
“By the grace of God, I will try and use whatever skill acquired at this training wisely and as well impart others around me for the betterment of the community at large”.
In the same vein, the SSA on Education to the Council Chairman, Hon. Prince Adesina Adeeso (Obama) said that tech innovation was the next trending phenomenon adding that the world was moving faster than anyone could ever imagine and that it was important for the youth catch up with the trend and make good use of available opportunity.
“It’s obvious that the world is moving faster than we thought. The generation now is ICT and the next generation is Artificial Intelligence (AI) going by this initiative, we’re trying to put Somolu ahead of others and that is the primary responsibility of any government to always think ahead for corpse net more importantly, the youths”.
“When they’re being given skill such like this, you’ll see them being productive and thereafter shun social vices”.
The SSA on Education in his closing remarks, however, enjoined the participants to avail themselves of the opportunity thrown at them adding that opportunity comes once in a lifetime as he urged them to be determined and be proactive to stand out among the best where and when necessary. He never hesitated to pour encomium on the council chief for his visionary leadership.
However, the Special Adviser on ICT to Hon. AbdulHamed Salawu, Mr. Kola Muhammed who gave details on the training reiterated that the programme would benefit youths from Mushin, Badagry, Kosofe, and Yaba areas in the state.
His words: “We have our partners from Somolu Tech Innovation and Tech Shepherd, who provided technical content and resources to enrich the participants/attendees. And our short and long term goal is to help our youths to gain useful tech skills for them to be competent, grow their self-esteem and get tech jobs to improve their economic and social status, and that we have done”.
“In other words, this is another form of human capital development Strategy by Hon. Abdulhammed Salawu’s administration in line with the THEMES+ AGENDA of Gov. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu”.
Meanwhile, at the end of the bootcamp, selected participants were offered a six-week scholarship to improve on their skills while he applauded Hon. AbdulHamed Salawu for his unflinching support for making the programme a reality.
