As the local government elections draw near, leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Somolu Local Government Area have issued a strong warning to all aspirants, urging them to conduct their campaigns peacefully and avoid any actions that could lead to political unrest in the community.
Speaking at the APC LGA meeting held on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Agunbiade, Somolu, the LGA Chairman, Hon. Yomi Olubamido, stressed the need for unity among party members. He emphasized that achieving the party’s common goal requires collective effort and discipline.
In a move to ensure orderliness within the party, Hon. Apostle Peter Oyewusi, Chairman of the Somolu/Bariga Apex Leaders, announced a ban on any form of campaign activities—including singing and dancing-at LGA meetings. He clarified that while aspirants are free to promote their ambitions elsewhere, the party’s gatherings must remain focused on strengthening internal structures and fostering unity.
“I want to make it clear to all aspirants and their supporters that, henceforth, no form of campaign, whether by drumming or dancing, will be allowed at the LGA ground. We are taking this measure to prevent any unnecessary tension ahead of the election,” Oyewusi declared.
Meanwhile, Asipa Abdulwasiu Doyin Banjo, a representative of the Lagos State APC Executive Council, addressed party leaders and members, emphasizing that no one should be discouraged from pursuing their political ambitions. He affirmed that every member has the right to contest for any position of their choice. However, he also made it clear that unsuccessful aspirants should not expect compensation or refunds for nomination forms.
“The directive from the state is that no leader should hinder any member from contesting for a position. However, aspirants must understand that once they purchase a form, it is at their own risk. There will be no refund, and no aspirant should assume they will be compensated with positions like Supervisor or Special Adviser,” Banjo stated.
The meeting served as a crucial reminder of the party’s commitment to a peaceful, transparent, and disciplined electoral process. Party leaders urged all aspirants and their supporters to abide by the rules and maintain decorum to ensure a smooth election process in Somolu.
