…calls for adaptation to tech, regulatory shifts, skills gap
Speaking at a news conference to mark the 2026 Global Surveyors’ Day Celebration, held at Alausa with the theme: “Surveyors Challenges In Multi Sectoral Growth”, the NIS Chairman of Lagos Branch, Adedeji Olanrewaju, said practitioners should embrace mentorship and maintain their professional boundaries.
Olanrewaju, speaking through the Vice Chairman, Moses Ogundare, highlighted key hurdles faced by Surveying professionals, including tech Integration amid cost, workforce, and skill gaps; regulatory navigation; environmental risks; and unsafe working conditions that impact efficiency.
He commended the Lagos State government for the implementation of the Land Grabbing law in the state, saying the NIS Lagos Branch was committed to working with the present administration to address the issues of quackery.
Also speaking, the Association of Private Practising Surveyors of Nigeria, APPSN, Lagos Branch, Olaoluwa Afolabi, represented by his Vice, Adams Olugbenga, implored surveyors to practice ethically and avoid supporting unlicensed operators while urging residents to desist from patronising quacks.
In his remarks at the event, which featured games, aerobics and interactive sessions, Acting Surveyor-General of Lagos State, Saliu Odupe, who was represented by an official, Solomon Olufemi, congratulated professionals in the state and reaffirmed supports to move the profession forward and ensure sustainable growth in the sector.
He urged members to continue to uplift professionalism in surveying and assured them of government support when needed.
