Breaking News: Man rescued after suffering electric shock from residential gate, hospitalised

Residents of Somolu in Lagos were thrown into panic on Monday afternoon following a shocking incident in which a gateman was almost electrocuted while on duty at a residential building. Somolu News reports.

The incident, which occurred at about 2:30 p.m. at No. 21 Kalejaiye Street, saw the yet-to-be-identified gateman suffer a severe electric shock while attempting to open the gate for a resident entering the compound.

Eyewitnesses disclosed that the sudden electrocution triggered chaos within the neighbourhood, as residents and passersby ran helter-skelter in a desperate attempt to rescue the victim and prevent what could have resulted in a fatality.

According to sources at the scene, the resident for whom the gate was being opened quickly noticed the danger and sprang into action. He reportedly jumped out of his vehicle and grabbed a wooden stick, which he used to separate the victim from the electrified gate, an intervention that proved crucial in saving the man’s life.

The unconscious gateman was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is currently receiving urgent medical attention. His condition as of the time of filing this report remains undisclosed.

In the aftermath of the incident, the affected gate was cordoned off to prevent further harm, while concerned residents called for an urgent inspection of electrical installations within the premises and across the neighbourhood.

The incident has once again highlighted the dangers of faulty electrical connections and the need for property owners to ensure proper maintenance of electrical infrastructure to safeguard lives and property.

Meanwhile, the CDC chairman of the area and the IKEDC office were said to have also been notified about the incident, with a promise to spring into action to ensure things are put in good order.
