As the 2025 local government elections draw near, political momentum continues to build in Somolu Local Government Area as Ward E stakeholders convened a strategic meeting and formally inaugurated a 50-man Local Organizing Committee (LOC) to lead campaign efforts for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates.
The meeting, which took place at the Oluwalogbon Constituency Office of Hon. Abiodun Orekoya, served as a rallying point for party faithful, political leaders, youth and women representatives, and key community stakeholders. It was aimed at galvanizing grassroots support for the APC Chairmanship flagbearer, Hon. AbdulLateef Ashimi, and the party’s councillorship candidate in Ward E, Hon. Raheem Azeez (Gafara), ahead of the July 12 polls.
Presided over by the newly inaugurated LOC Chairman, Hon. Ade Adebambo, the session was filled with passionate calls for unity, active voter mobilization, and strategic grassroots engagement. In his address, Hon. Adebambo described the meeting as “a timely intervention to strengthen the party’s base and ensure a sweeping victory.”
“We must not only work hard but work smart. The election is a test of our unity and our commitment to good governance. With Hon. Ashimi’s leadership experience and the popularity of our councillorship candidate, the APC is in a strong position to win Ward E and all of Somolu”. He said.
Also speaking, the LOC Secretary Mr. Nuru Ogunbadejo emphasized the need for intensive voter education and urged party executives to engage in door-to-door sensitization, particularly targeting young and first-time voters.
One of the highlights of the meeting was the official unveiling of the 50-man LOC, drawn from across all political blocs within the ward to reflect inclusiveness, competence, and commitment to the party’s success. The committee is tasked with coordinating campaign activities, managing voter outreach, and ensuring APC’s dominance at the polls.
In his goodwill message, the chairman of leaders in Ward E, Hon. Wole Olowole (Denmark), alongside Ward Chairman Mrs. Sarah Folarin, reiterated their unflinching support for the APC flagbearers. Hon. Olowole, however, noted that the party’s strength lies in its unity and discipline, while Mrs. Folarin commended the quality of candidates presented by the party.
Also present at the meeting were party stalwarts including Hon. Alhaji Wale Seriki; incumbent Ward E Councillor, Hon. Bolaji Teluwo; and the Special Adviser to the Council Chairman on Health, Hon. Koya Oluyinka-Sodipe.
Other attendees included APC youth leader in Ward E as well as zonal Chairmen and grassroots mobilizers.
Stakeholders from the party’s elders’ caucus urged all members to put aside internal differences and embrace the spirit of togetherness, warning that disunity could threaten the party’s stronghold in Somolu.
The meeting concluded with prayers for peaceful elections, increased voter turnout, and overwhelming success for APC candidates, particularly Hon. Ashimi and Hon. Raheem Azeez.
However, as one of the most politically strategic wards in Somolu, Ward E is expected to play a crucial role in determining the broader outcome of the 2025 chairmanship elections. With the formation of the LOC and renewed grassroots enthusiasm, APC leaders in the ward expressed confidence in their readiness to deliver a landslide victory.
