2025 LG Poll: Campaign Committee Presents Somolu Chairmanship candidate, councillors to farmers, Marketmen and Women

As the momentum for the upcoming July 12 local government elections gathers pace, the campaign committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Somolu Local Government has officially presented its chairmanship flag bearer, Hon. AbdulLateef Ashimi, to the market men and women within the council area.

The symbolic presentation, which took place at the bustling Independent Campaign House, Shipeolu was greeted with excitement and enthusiastic chants from traders and farmers who trooped out in large numbers to receive the party’s candidate.

The event underscored the grassroots engagement strategy of the campaign, aiming to solidify support among one of the most influential economic blocs in the community, the market traders not leaving out the farmers

Leading the campaign committee was the Director General and former Sole Administrator of Somolu local government; Hon. Bamidele Williams Lawanson, who described Ashimi as a “tested and trusted loyalist of the party” with a record of excellence in grassroots governance.

According to Hon. Willy (Oosha), Ashimi’s candidacy is a reflection of the APC’s commitment to continuity, stability, and inclusive development across Somolu.

“Our flag bearer, Hon. Ashimi, is not a stranger to the people. He has served diligently as councillor and demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities. Today, we bring him before you — the market men and women — to seek your blessings and support ahead of the July 12 polls,” he said.

Speaking during the event, Hon. Ashimi expressed gratitude for the warm reception and promised to prioritize the welfare of traders if elected. He outlined his plans to modernize local markets, enhance security, and ensure a conducive business environment for all.

“I understand the challenges our market people face daily — from poor infrastructure to multiple levies and lack of support. Under my leadership, markets in Somolu will not be neglected. You have my word that your businesses will thrive under our administration,” Ashimi assured.

Also present at the event was the APC’s Vice Chairmanship candidate, Hon. Taiwo Ojomu, who urged the traders to vote massively for the party to ensure continuity in development and empower a new generation of leaders committed to serving the people.

Representatives of various market associations also took turns to pledge their support for the APC candidate, citing the achievements of the current administration under Executive Chairman Hon. AbdulHamed Salawu, popularly known as Dullar, as a strong reason to continue with the party’s leadership.

The presentation ceremony marked another milestone in the build-up to what promises to be a closely watched contest in Somolu, with APC banking on its grassroots network and record of performance to retain control of the council.

With the clock ticking toward July 12, Hon. Ashimi’s introduction to key community stakeholders like the marketmen and women signals a deliberate effort by the APC to maintain its foothold in Somolu’s local politics.
