The Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. AbdulHamed Salawu ‘Dullar’, has congratulated Somolu-born Para-athlete, Oluwakemi Margret Ladipo, who clinched a gold medal at the ongoing 2025 Gateway Games in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
In a statement issued yesterday, Hon. AbdulHamed Salawu described Okuwakemi’s remarkable achievement as a testament to the resilience, dedication, and sporting excellence for which Somolu indigenes are known.
He further emphasized that the council would continue to support young talents in sports and other endeavors.
“We are proud of Oluwakemi Ladipo whose outstanding performance has once again put Somolu on the map of national sports glory,” the council boss stated. “This victory is not only a personal achievement but also a reflection of the spirit of hard work and determination that characterizes the youths of our community.”

Oladipo wheeled hard into the line, winning the Gold medal in a time of 18.94s. Hannah Babalola (Delta State), finished 2nd in 19.03s, while Chika Nwerem (Delta State) secured her place on the podium, coming in 3rd with a time of 19.30s.
She however, expressed her gratitude to her coaches, teammates, and the community for their unwavering support. She noted that the win was a dream come true and a stepping stone to greater accomplishments in athletics.
The 2025 Gateway Games, which commenced from May 16 to May 30, attracted thousands of athletes from across the country, showcasing their talents in various sporting categories. Oluwakemi’s triumph in the 100m event was among the highlights of the competition.
Hon. AbdulHamed ‘Dullar’ urged other aspiring athletes in Somolu to draw inspiration from Oluwakemi’s success, reiterating the council’s commitment to promoting sports development through grassroots initiatives and mentorship programs.
He concluded by assuring the champion of the council’s continued support in her future sporting engagements.
The council chief’s congratulatory message has sparked excitement within the community, with many residents lauding Oluwakemi’s victory as a source of pride and inspiration for Somolu youths.
