Somolu, Lagos, Nigeria – In a vibrant display of cultural heritage and communal pride, the Bajulaiye community in Somolu local government area of the state is set to host its first-ever ‘Bajulaiye Day’, a landmark event designed to celebrate the rich traditions, history, and people of the area. The eagerly anticipated celebration will take place on Saturday, December 7th, 2024, and promises to be a day of fun, reflection, and unity for residents and visitors alike.
Efforts are already in top gear as the community works together to ensure the inaugural event’s success. A series of exciting activities have been lined up for the day, showcasing the spirit of the Bajulaiye community, which has long been recognized for its diverse cultural influences, resilient people, and rich local traditions. From traditional dance performances and musical showcases to culinary delights that highlight the best of local flavours, Bajulaiye Day will offer something for everyone.
The event is being spearheaded by Hon. Segun Fehintola, the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), community leaders, local businesses, and support from various stakeholders within the community/Lagos State.
According to the organizing committee, the day’s festivities will not only provide a platform for celebrating the community’s past but also serve as an opportunity to chart a path forward for its future.
“We are incredibly excited about Bajulaiye Day. This is not just about having a good time; it’s about coming together as a community to appreciate our shared history and heritage, while also looking ahead to how we can continue to grow and thrive together.” Said Hon. Fehintola.
Key highlights of Bajulaiye Day will include an exhibition of the community’s history, featuring photos and artifacts that tell the story of Bajulaiye’s growth from its humble beginnings to its current status as a vibrant, multicultural neighbourhood. A special part of the event will also include a “Bajulaiye Awards” ceremony, where local heroes, leaders, and individuals who have contributed to the development of the community will be honoured for their outstanding achievements.
In keeping with the theme of cultural celebration, the day will also feature a fashion show showcasing traditional and modern styles inspired by Bajulaiye’s unique identity. Children and families will be treated to a variety of entertainment, including face painting, games, and performances by local artists, musicians, and dancers.
Local food vendors will also play a pivotal role in the event, with a wide array of traditional dishes on offer. From jollof rice to pounded yam and egusi soup, the culinary offerings will provide a delightful experience for all attendees, allowing them to taste the flavours of Bajulaiye and Lagos at large.
As part of efforts to make the event more inclusive, the organizers have partnered with local schools, religious institutions, and community-based organizations to ensure that people of all ages and backgrounds have the chance to participate and enjoy.

We are a community that values togetherness and inclusivity, and we want this event to reflect that spirit.” Said Alhaji Chief Alabi Yinusa, the traditional ruler of Bajulaiye Community.
With a lineup packed with cultural activities, entertainment, and opportunities for community bonding, Bajulaiye Day is poised to become an annual tradition, drawing visitors from across Lagos and beyond to experience the vibrant spirit of this unique community.
Expected at the epoch-making event include the Executive Chairman of the Somolu local government; Hon. AbdulHamed Salawu ‘Dullar’, his counterpart from Bariga LCDA, Hon. Alabo Kolade David, Member of House Representatives representing Somolu Federal Constituency; Hon. Ademorin Kuye, and the Lagos state House of Assembly member representing Somolu constituency I; Hon. Abiodun Abimbola Orekoya.
Others are the CEO of NEM Insurance; Dr. Chief Dewale Teluwo, the Oba of Somolu, HRM Oba Kazeem Bashua, the Baale of Bajulaiye; Alhaji Chief Rodiyallahu Alabi Yunus, the Iyaloja-General; Chief Mrs. Dupe Olufojude, not leaving out businessmen and women alike.
Meanwhile, one of Nigeria’s finest Fuji Maestro, Alhaji Sule Adio Atawewe will be on the ground to make ‘Bajulaiye Day’ the most interesting and memorable event ever.
