The CMD Event Centre in Magodo was a sight to behold as it played host to the 2024 Ikosi-Isheri Ketu Magodo Carnival. This grand event, held on October 26th and 27th, 2024, drew residents, political elites, captains of industry, and business people, all coming together to celebrate a rich tapestry of culture and unity.
The 2-day carnival, aptly themed “Our Heritage-Our Pride: A Celebration of Culture and Unity,” showcased the vibrant diversity and unity of Nigeria’s major ethnic groups. The event was a colourful display of cultural heritage, featuring representatives from notable Nigerian tribes adorned in elegant and colorful attires.
These representatives captivated the audience with performances symbolizing unity and prosperity, reinforcing the carnival’s central theme.
The Multiple-titled Chief and Mayoress of Ikosi-Isheri, Hon. Princess Samiat Bada during her speech said the cultural carnival has become a legacy necessary to promote culture, community empowerment, and social cohesion that must be passed to future generations.
“The Aworis, the original center of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA laid our community foundation through farming, fishing, and craftsmanship to shape our rich identity and today, we honour their legacy while celebrating the diversity of the ethnic groups, Hausa, Ibo, Yoruba, Efik and other tribes that makes our Community vibrant. It now becomes necessary to promote culture, community empowerment, and social cohesion that must be passed to future generations.”
In her closing remarks, she poured encomium on the face of the Carnival; First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu for her unflinching support for making the event a success while she also thanked the Governor of Lagos State; Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his unwavering commitment for growth and development of communities in the state.
Not leaving out the Senator representing Lagos-East Senatorial District and Chairman of Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions; Senator Adetokunbo Mukhail Abiru, Lagos APC top shot, Hon. Cornelius Ojelabi, Traditional rulers, the sponsors, and political elites.
Attendees were treated to a plethora of cultural exhibitions, including traditional dances, music, and art, each reflecting the unique traditions and histories of Nigeria’s diverse ethnic communities.
