In response to the severe economic challenges plaguing Nigerians due to persistent increases in foreign exchange rates and the removal of fuel subsidies, Hon. AbdulHamed Salawu ‘Dullar’, the Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, has embarked on a significant initiative by inaugurating a Palliative Committee in Somolu.
This action underscores his commitment to alleviating the financial strains experienced by individuals within the community.
During the inauguration, the council helmsman elucidated the terms of reference for the committee, which is led by Comrade Isiak Buna, the distinguished Convener of the Human Rights Monitoring Agenda (HURMA).
The initial meeting of the committee was attended by esteemed members, including Hon. Michael Oikeh, Alhaji Owolabi Oseni, Mrs Maria Odutayo, Mrs Olayinka Oladipupo, Sunday Makanjuola (PDP Rep), Mrs. Omolara Rabiu, and Comrade Afeez Raheem, representing various segments of the community.
As the committee embarks on its mission, more group representatives are expected to join subsequent meetings to contribute to the realization of the Palliative Committee’s objectives.
Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu ‘Dullar’ emphasized during his address to the committee members that the palliatives are designated for the truly vulnerable within Somolu, reaffirming their exclusion from politicians or individuals outside the community.
In response, Comrade Isiak Buna reassured the council helmsman of the committee’s steadfast commitment to targeting the genuinely vulnerable and ensuring the delivery of genuine assistance.
This collaborative effort reflects the council’s dedication to identifying and supporting the most vulnerable members of the community during these challenging times.
