Somolu Ward F team emerge the winners of Orekoya Alliance Football Tournament despite Bariga Ward D’s dream start

The team from Ward F won the 2nd edition of the Orekoya Alliance Tournament held at the Yabatech Sports Complex where hundreds of football fans and supporters had stormed the venue in their numbers to cheer their own to victory and watch the two finalists exhibit the finest of football.

Both teams got off to the best possible start, they got off to the Cup final start that saw Somolu Ward F locked horns with Ward D ending in favour of Somolu Ward F in a 1-0 encounter through the No.9 jersey who headed past the goalkeeper into the net just 5 minutes to the end of the match.

Although, the Ward D team tried all they could to level up but their efforts could not hold water as they had believed the game would end up in a penalty shootout where they’d hoped to take the shine off their opponent but unfortunately, the unexpected late minute goal sunk them deeply into the bottom of the game.

Somolu Ward F no doubt, brought the best support, it is quite a feat outshining its rival in a football match that has no negative words for winners – but had to be content in the end with soaking up the rousing Cup final atmosphere.

Speaking to Somolu News shortly after the game, Coach Ibe Emmanuel praised his team for standing tall till the end of the game taking every chance as they come. He further stressed that his team lost to the best team despite his team’s dream start.

“I want to believe that my team lost to the best team; Ward F despite my team’s dream start and we all know that in any game or match, there’s always a winner and a loser. The fact that we lost today does not mean we cannot win tomorrow. We did our best but hopefully next time, we’ll win. Tactically, Ward F’s team was good and I gave it to them”.

“Many thanks to the Organiser of this wonderful tournament, Hon. Biodun Orekoya for this initiative put together to harness football talents in the Somolu Community”.

Meanwhile, in the third-place match, Bariga Ward F defeated Somolu Ward H in a 2-0 encounter through No 11 Jersey in just 6-minute intervals to win the Bronze medal of the tournament.

The Champions of the tournament, Ward F went home a cash prize of N1million, and the Silver Medal team; the Bariga Ward D team settled for N350,000 while the third-place winners got N150,000 for their efforts.
