There’s no doubt that the former executive governor of Lagos State, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode has done his part during his tenure as the governor of the state as he ensures that his impact is being felt across the nooks and crannies of Lagos in terms of socio-economy, cultural as well as infrastructural development not leaving out sports, health care delivery, security and general the well-being of Lagosian which will not be forgotten in a haste.
He took Lagos from where his predecessor, Mr Babatunde Fashola left it and crafted it to an enviable state that many to live comfortable without rancour with records to show for it. Ambode may not be a saint in his own world as he was reported to have stepped on toes thereby getting his fingers burnt in the process. He miscalculated his steps and fell like a pack of cards without anyone to lean on except God.
The former Lagos No.1 man believed he had wine and dine with the bigwigs in the political arena and so, he has become the ‘untouchable’ forgetting that he has not been properly baptized as he’s just coming from ‘civil to political’ world. He left all that matters out with naive.
All he failed to realise was learning the trade and mastering it even to his dream. The Epe born accountant relied much on his achievement as a lifeline but alas, they proved him wrong. Those who he stepped on their toes waited for him to play his last card before checking him up. He must have underrated their ability to pull the string of power and so, his ambition to run for the second term in office was cut off.
As if that was not enough, immediately the news went viral on the social media that he has been appointed as the minister of Budget and Planning, the storm started gathering against him. Those he offended started pulling the machinery of the state to pull him down.
Like the proverbial saying that “the evil man does live after them”. The man may not be a saint anyway, but who are we to judge and if he’s lucky enough or better put that if God is on his side, the table shakers may just be doing that in vain.
Though. the former governor may have offended one political class or the other in the past, learning to forgive and forget should be the key factor. Pulling him down, by all means, will be unfair and unjustifiable in all manners. Besides, he must have learnt his lesson by now and will always allow the voice of the elders to sink into his head rather than shunning them.
His case was like the proverbial dog who refuses to listen to the hunter’s whistle, it lost its way and nothing more.
However, the elders may not always be right in some instances but applying wisdom is always the best way not “giving them their sizes” as he did. Paying the equilibrium price is the best in our own political arena.
