…SKIBANJ is a Pride to APC, Gov. Sanwo-Olu’s administration – Says APC Party Chairman, Oshodi Chapter
On August 2, 2026, football stakeholders gathered to witness the unveiling of an exciting second edition of Lagos Street Soccer Stars Oshodi as 32 teams were given playing kits to compete in a knockout, action-packed soccer game competition for #3 million plus and other mouthwatering consolation prizes.
The unveiling marked the start of the first week of the two-week tournament themed: “Oshodi Hidden Talents” to discover and promote grassroots talent in the state.
The competition, which was organized by the Senior Aide to the Governor on Grassroots Sports, Mr. Adebanji Atewogboye, popularly known as SKIBANJ, in collaboration with First Bank Nigeria Plc, an initiative of Sporty Lagos Naija Limited stated that the tournament was designed to take youths off the streets and educate them about drug abuse through the invitation and lecture by National Drug Law Enforcement Agency(NDLEA) during the event.
The event is also part of the administration of Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s efforts to fund grassroots sport development across 57 local governments in the state. According to Mr Atewogboye SKIBANJ, the Lagos Street Soccer Stars Oshodi edition is one of the programs initiated for the young people. “The program has been running from last year to identify hidden talents, give them structure, and show that Gov. Sanwo-Olu is investing in their dreams.”
Mr Ayenigbara Samuel, Chief Superintendent of Narcotics, NDLEA Lagos Strategic Command, Ikoyi, Lagos, sensitised the young people again to drug abuse as part of the event’s unveiling activities. “Footballers can perform naturally well if they abstain from hard drugs. Drug abuse is destructive. So, the Lagos State government has decided to implement the program through the SSA and Sporty Lagos Naija on grassroots sports because it destroys talent and dreams. We urge you to choose life over hard drugs”
The event drew community leaders, coaches, and residents who trooped out to witness the kickoff despite the drizzling of rain, also had in attendance Hon. Saheed Animashaun, the APC LGA Chairman, Oshodi-Isolo.
Hon. Animashaun, speaking during the event, lauded the organiser, Mr Atewogboye SKIBANJ, for making the All Progressives Congress (APC), Oshodi Chapter, proud and strengthening the efforts of Gov. Sanwo-Olu in youth and grassroots sports development.
His words: “What we witnessed at the program (Lagos Street Soccer Stars Oshodi) is a lifetime program in Oshodi. We have to appreciate the Lagos State Governor, H.E Sanwo-Olu and the SSA to the Governor on Grassroots Sports, Hon. Adebanji Atewogboye, for putting up the event.”
He added that: “”The grassroots sports by the Senior Aide is aiding youth and grassroots sports development from an earlier stage, and that is the reason the leadership of the party in Oshodi came out to support him. The program is part of the dividends of democracy under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, appreciating the Governor for the rehabilitation of the road where the turf was laid to promote the tournament.
The event’s fixtures yesterday had Dosunmu Street defeat its opponent, Ariyibi Oke Street, on penalty after their game ended in a draw. While Popoola Street won 2- 1 against Adeyemo Street. Amusa Street had 3 goals over 1 goal by Amusa Street. The last game of the day involved Olorunishola Street, 3 – 1 goal against Arowojobe Street.
The event had in attendance dignitaries and institutions, including the leadership of APC in the area; Hon. Mumuni Olori (Secretary, Apex Body), Chief Femi Akeju, Chief Ipadeola Lawanson, Hon. Saheed Dokunmu, Hon. Kabiru Oriowo, Hon. Dupe Ogundeyi, and Mrs Linda Jacob.
The competition, which was proudly sponsored by Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and First Bank Nigeria Plc, our official title sponsor, will run until August 15, 2026. Other co-sponsors were the founder of King Ogunremi Foundation as well as officials from Dangote Salt Plc as our community sponsors.
