The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) officially declared Jolaosho the winner after the conclusion of the electoral process, which was conducted peacefully across the ward.
According to the results announced by the commission, Jolaosho overwhelmingly defeated her opponents, polling 2,546 votes to emerge the councillor-elect for Ward F. Her closest challenger, Mr Ifeanyibech Anyamebech of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), garnered 157 votes, while the candidate of the National Democratic Party (NDP) secured 23 votes.
In a statement issued after the exercise, LASIEC explained that the by-elections were necessitated by vacancies resulting from the unfortunate demise of elected councillors in the affected wards.
“The elections were necessitated by vacancies due to the unfortunate demise of the elected Councillors representing the respective Wards that must be filled in line with democratic principles and the LASIEC laws,” the statement noted.
The commission further commended residents of the ward for their orderly conduct and participation in the democratic process.
LASIEC Chairman, Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (Rtd.), who monitored the election alongside other commissioners and the Permanent Secretary of the commission, AbdulRafiu Omowole Fashola, praised voters, political parties, security agencies, and electoral officials for ensuring a peaceful and credible exercise.
According to the commission, electoral materials arrived promptly at polling units, while accredited voters were able to cast their ballots without hindrance.
“Electoral materials arrived promptly at polling units, accredited voters exercised their franchise peacefully, and the process was conducted in a secured, transparent, free, fair, and credible manner,” the commission stated.
The election outcome has been widely interpreted as a strong endorsement of the APC’s grassroots structure and popularity within the Bajulaiye/Fola-Agoro community, as Jolaosho secured an overwhelming majority of the votes cast.
LASIEC reiterated its commitment to deepening democratic governance at the grassroots level, assuring residents that it would continue to improve electoral processes through innovation, transparency, and active stakeholder engagement.
The commission emphasized that conducting credible elections remains central to its mandate and pledged to sustain efforts aimed at strengthening public confidence in local government electoral processes across Lagos State.
With her resounding victory, Hon. Kehinde Alimat Jolaosho is expected to assume office as the new representative of Bajulaiye/Fola-Agoro Ward F, bringing renewed leadership and representation to the ward’s residents.
