Somolu Council Chairman distributes 8th phase of Renewed Hope Palliatives

…honours late Oduyeru, marks Workers’ Day

The Somolu Local Government, led by the indefatigable Hon. Lateef Ashimi, has continued its social support drive with the distribution of the 8th phase of its “Renewed Hope Palliatives” to elderly residents and vulnerable citizens in the community.

The distribution exercise, which took place at the Somolu Banquet Hall, saw over 2000 beneficiaries receive relief packages, including cash gifts, as part of efforts to cushion economic challenges and improve the welfare of residents.

Speaking during the event, the council Chairman commended the unwavering support of beneficiaries and residents, while also acknowledging the commitment of its workforce. The initiative was also used to mark the 2026 International Workers’ Day, with the council praising staff for their dedication and productivity in service delivery.

In a solemn moment, the council honoured the memory of a dedicated member of its entertainment team, the late Mrs Muinat Adebimpe Oduyeru, who passed away a few days prior. Prayers were offered for the repose of her soul, with condolences extended to her family.

The council further used the occasion to call for increased community participation in environmental sanitation efforts. Residents were urged to prioritise cleanliness and collaborate with authorities during monthly sanitation exercises to ensure a healthier and safer Somolu.

The programme underscores the administration’s commitment to social welfare, community development, and civic responsibility, as it continues to promote initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for residents.
