The awards were presented during the institution’s 2nd Annual Distinguished Service Lecture and Awards held at the Multipurpose Hall in Lagos, where former Governor of Lagos State and former Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola, delivered the keynote lecture on “Institutional Reform and Entrenching the Culture of Excellence in Public Service.”
The prestigious Lifetime Achievement Awards were conferred on George Majekodunmi Okufi, pioneer Rector of the college; Ishola Adekunle Olorunnimbe, retired Chief Judge of Lagos State; and Tajudeen Oluyole Olusi, in recognition of their enduring contributions to education, governance, leadership and national development.
Speaking at the event, the Rector of the institution, Dr. (Engr.) Ibraheem Abdul, said the awards ceremony was designed to celebrate integrity, professionalism, innovation and impactful service within and outside the college community.
According to him, the recognition of distinguished Nigerians and outstanding staff members was part of the institution’s broader agenda to institutionalise a culture of excellence and reward productivity.
He stated that the college remained committed to creating an environment where merit, innovation and dedication to duty are acknowledged and encouraged.
“Our objective is to build a culture where excellence is not merely an aspiration but a tradition deeply rooted in our institutional framework,” Abdul said.
The Rector explained that the staff awards covered various categories, including overall best staff in academic and non-academic units, best staff in departments and schools, as well as awards for outstanding contributions to research, patenting, innovation and value addition to the college.
A total of 157 staff members received awards for exceptional productivity, innovation, professionalism and service delivery.
Under the reward structure, winners in the departmental category received N50,000 each, while overall best staff in each school and unit were rewarded with N250,000. The overall best academic and non-academic staff received star prizes of N1 million each.
Abdul noted that the initiative was intended to motivate staff and reinforce healthy competition, creativity and commitment to institutional growth.
He described the award recipients as role models whose contributions continue to strengthen the reputation and advancement of the college.
The Rector also praised the Lifetime Achievement Award recipients for their exemplary leadership and enduring legacies in public service and national development.
He urged students and younger professionals to emulate the values of discipline, integrity and selfless service demonstrated by the honourees.
In an address delivered on behalf of the Chairman of the Governing Council, Chief Ebenezer Akinbolade described the award ceremony as a critical component of efforts to entrench accountability and excellence within public institutions.
He said rewarding hard work and professionalism was essential to sustaining institutional reforms and inspiring future generations of public servants.
According to him, excellence must not only be encouraged but deliberately celebrated to serve as a benchmark for others.
The event attracted government officials, academics, traditional leaders, industry stakeholders, students and members of the public, who commended the institution for promoting merit, innovation and service excellence in the nation’s tertiary education sector.
