Ashimi Rolls Out 7th Edition of Renewed Hope Palliative for the Elderly in Somolu

…urges compliance with the reintroduced monthly environmental sanitation exercise.

In a continued demonstration of compassion and grassroots leadership, the Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Lateef Ashimi, has once again extended support to elderly residents through the 7th edition of the Renewed Hope Palliative initiative.

The distribution exercise, which has become a hallmark of the chairman’s administration, was held amid appreciation and commendation from beneficiaries and community stakeholders who gathered to witness the impactful programme. The initiative is aimed at alleviating the economic hardship faced by senior citizens, particularly in the face of rising costs of living.

Speaking during the event, Hon. Lateef reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of the aged, noting that the elderly remain a vital part of the community whose contributions to societal development must not be overlooked.

“This initiative is not just about providing food and relief materials; it is about showing love, care, and respect to those who have laboured tirelessly in their younger years to build the society we enjoy today”. He said.

He further emphasised that the Renewed Hope Palliative programme aligns with broader efforts to ensure inclusiveness in governance, adding that no segment of the population should be left behind in the distribution of dividends of democracy.Beneficiaries of the programme, many of whom expressed deep gratitude, described the gesture as timely and impactful. Some noted that the support would go a long way in easing their daily struggles and improving their standard of living.

Community leaders and political stakeholders present at the event also lauded the chairman for sustaining the initiative, describing it as a clear reflection of responsive and people-oriented governance.

“This is the seventh edition, and it shows consistency and sincerity of purpose. Our elderly citizens deserve this kind of attention, and we are proud of the chairman’s efforts,” one of the community leaders remarked.

The Renewed Hope Palliative initiative has, over time, grown into a reliable support system for vulnerable groups within Somolu, particularly the elderly, reinforcing the council’s commitment to social welfare and community development.

In his closing remarks, the council boss urged the residents to embrace the monthly sanitation exercise reintroduced by the state government to make the state more hygienically habitable for all Lagosians, while he warned that anyone found culpable will face the music without any recourse.

However, as the programme continues to gain traction, residents have expressed optimism that such initiatives will not only be sustained but also expanded to reach more beneficiaries across the local government area.
