The Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Lateef Ashimi, on 14th Saturday, March, 2026, commissioned the newly completed Abubakre Mosque located on Ige Street in the Ijebutedo community in the Somolu area of Lagos.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by notable personalities, including the Ward C Councillor, Hon. Afolarin Olugbenga Olubiyi (popularly known as Coded), community leaders and the Chief Host, Imam Abdullazeez Adebayo Salami, alongside Muslim faithful and residents of the area.
The event marked another milestone in the development of religious and community infrastructure within the Somolu Local Government Area, as residents gathered in large numbers to witness the official opening of the mosque.
Speaking during the ceremony, the council chairman urged members of the Muslim Ummah to continue to promote peaceful coexistence, unity and religious tolerance within the community. He emphasised that places of worship should serve as centres for moral guidance, spiritual growth and communal harmony.
Ashimi noted that the establishment of the mosque would further strengthen the spiritual life of the residents while also encouraging social cohesion among people of different backgrounds living in the community.
Also speaking at the event, Councillor Afolarin Olugbenga Olubiyi commended the efforts of community leaders and stakeholders who contributed to the successful completion of the mosque project. He described the initiative as a testament to the unity and collective spirit of the people of Ijebutedo.
The Chief Host, Imam Abdullazeez Adebayo Salami, expressed appreciation to the Somolu Local Government leadership and other stakeholders for their presence and support, noting that the mosque would serve as a centre for worship, learning and community engagement.
Residents of the community welcomed the development with enthusiasm, expressing hope that the new mosque would further strengthen religious activities and promote peace within the neighbourhood.
The ceremony concluded with prayers for peace, progress and continued development in Somolu Local Government and the wider Lagos State.
