Okanlomo of Iwaya holds 5th Ramadan lecture, distributes palliatives to residents

The premise of Fadh-l-loma Secondary School in Iwaya, Onike area of Lagos Mainland, Lagos State, was filled to its capacity as Muslim faithful, community leaders, and prominent political figures gathered for the 5th Annual Ramadan Lecture organised by the Okanlomo of Iwaya, Hon. Mr. & Mrs Abiodun Jones.

The well-attended spiritual gathering, themed “Forgiveness,” brought together residents from different parts of the community who converged to listen to words of guidance and reflection as the holy month of Ramadan continues.

Delivering the Ramadan lecture, the guest lecturer, Fadhilat Sheikh Alhaji Murthdor Onisuru Okutagidi, emphasised the importance of forgiveness in human relationships and societal development. He urged individuals to cultivate the habit of forgiving one another, noting that peace and unity can only thrive in an environment where people let go of grudges.

According to the cleric, forgiveness should not be limited to personal relationships alone but must also exist between leaders and their followers.

“Forgiveness is a virtue that strengthens the bond between people. Leaders must learn to forgive their followers, and followers must equally show understanding to their leaders. When there is forgiveness, there will be peace, progress and harmony in society,” he stated.

The Islamic scholar further explained that the essence of Ramadan goes beyond fasting, stressing that the period is a time for deep reflection, reconciliation and strengthening of spiritual commitment.

He also advised Muslims to imbibe the spirit of compassion, patience and tolerance during and after the Ramadan season, describing forgiveness as one of the greatest acts that pleases Allah.

Speaking at the event, the CEO of Jonabs Ventures and the Okanlomo of Iwayaland, the host of the annual lecture, said the programme was initiated to promote spiritual growth, peaceful coexistence and moral reorientation within the community.

He noted that the Ramadan lecture has continued to grow over the years, attracting religious scholars, political leaders and residents who are eager to deepen their understanding of Islamic teachings.

The community leader also stressed that beyond the spiritual teachings, the event serves as an avenue to support vulnerable residents, particularly during the fasting period.

As part of the activities marking the event, palliatives, including food items and other essential materials, were distributed to residents to cushion the economic challenges faced by many families during Ramadan, as beneficiaries expressed appreciation to the Okanlomo of Iwaya for the gesture, describing the initiative as timely and impactful.

The event also featured special prayers for peace, unity and progress in the Iwaya community, Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole.

The annual Ramadan lecture has gradually become one of the most anticipated religious gatherings in the Iwaya community, attracting dignitaries and residents who see it as an opportunity to reflect on faith, strengthen community ties and extend support to those in need.
