Ashimi lauds serving corps members in Somolu LG for HealthCare Initiative

The Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Lateef Ashimi, has commended serving members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in the community for their outstanding contribution to grassroots healthcare delivery.

The commendation was made during a health outreach programme organised by the Social, Welfare and Health CDS of Somolu LG, held at the Council Secretariat earlier this week. The initiative, which focused on free medical check-ups, health education, and distribution of essential drugs, attracted dozens of residents, particularly the elderly and vulnerable groups.

Chairman Ashimi praised the corps members for demonstrating uncommon dedication and community spirit, describing their intervention as timely and impactful. He noted that such programmes significantly complement the council’s ongoing efforts to strengthen primary healthcare services across Somolu.

According to him, “The NYSC has remained a beacon of hope in community development over the years. These young men and women have once again proven that service to the nation goes beyond the uniform. Their commitment to improving the health of our people is highly commendable.”

He assured the corps members of the council’s continued support to enable them to carry out more community-oriented projects during their service year, adding that their gesture would be long remembered by beneficiaries and the local government.

Speaking on behalf of the corps members, the President of Social, Welfare and Health, CDS Somolu LG,  Mubaraq Alabi, said the initiative was borne out of a passion to address common health challenges in the community. He expressed appreciation to the council authorities for providing an enabling environment for the programme to thrive.

Residents who benefitted from the outreach described the programme as life-saving, stressing that many people who could not afford routine checks were able to take advantage of the free services.

The event featured free blood pressure checks, malaria tests, blood sugar screening, medical counselling, and the distribution of multivitamins and prescribed medications.

The council reiterated its commitment to working closely with the NYSC and other development-driven organisations to improve the quality of life for all residents within the Somolu LG area.
