One of the revered Islamic scholars in the state and the Chief Imam of Nawair-ud-deen Central Mosque, Somolu/Bariga Branch, and the the Founder of Aenur Ridhoh Islamic Global family, Sheikh Abiola Bashir Ahmad, has called on Muslim faithful to remain conscious of the timing of the Jummat (Friday) prayer, emphasizing its spiritual and communal importance in Islam.
Speaking during a Jummat service held at the Nawair-ud-deen Central Mosque on Friday 31st of October, 2025, Sheikh Abiola Bashir Ahmad reminded Muslims faithful that punctuality and proper preparation for Jummat prayer are not only signs of discipline but also acts of devotion rewarded by Allah.
“Jummat is not an ordinary prayer; it is a day of special blessings. Every believer should respect its time, leave worldly engagements early, and prepare their minds and bodies for worship”. He said.
The cleric noted with concern that some Muslims often delay their attendance at the mosque or engage in business activities even after the call to prayer has been made, contrary to Islamic injunctions.
He cited the Qur’anic verse from Surah Al-Jumu’ah (62:9) which states:
“O you who believe! When the call is proclaimed for the prayer on Friday, hasten earnestly to the remembrance of Allah and leave off trade.”
According to Sheikh Ahmad, adherence to this command reflects one’s level of faith and obedience. He urged business owners, civil servants, and students alike to structure their schedules around Jummat prayer time.
“The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) encouraged us to arrive early for Jummat, to listen attentively to the sermon (khutbah), and to avoid distractions. It is a time to renew our spiritual energy and strengthen community bonds”. He added.
The Islamic scholar also reminded mosque administrators and Imams to ensure that Jummat prayers start promptly, as unnecessary delays could discourage worshippers and disrupt the spirit of punctuality the religion encourages.
In conclusion, Sheikh Abiola Bashir Ahmad appealed to Muslims to view Friday not merely as a day of worship but as an opportunity for reflection, unity, and moral rejuvenation.
“Let us be models of discipline and faith. When we honour Jummat time, we honor our covenant with Allah”. He said.
