Prominent political leaders in Somolu have joined voices in celebration of one of the area’s most revered political figures, Alhaji Hon. Fatai Bakare, popularly known as ‘Baba Oba’, as he marks his birthday anniversary.
The immediate past Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. AbdulHamed Salawu, fondly known as ‘Dullar’, the incumbent Chairman, Hon. Lateef Ashimi, and a notable grassroots politician and chairmanship aspirant in the last election, Hon. Hakeem Anifowoshe, all sent heartfelt birthday wishes to Alhaji Bakare, praising his enduring legacy and unwavering service to the community.
In his tribute, Hon. AbdulHamed Salawu described Baba Oba as “a pillar of strength and a guiding light in the political landscape of Somolu.” According to him, Alhaji Bakare has played a critical role in mentoring young leaders and shaping progressive politics within the local government. “Today we celebrate not just his age, but his years of sacrifice, wisdom, and dedication to our people. Baba Oba is a father to many of us in politics,” Dullar stated.
Current council chairman, Hon. Lateef Ashimi, also acknowledged the pivotal role Alhaji Bakare has played in promoting peace and stability within the political space in Somolu. He noted that his words of advice and political foresight have been instrumental in guiding the local administration. “Alhaji Fatai Bakare is more than a political icon; he is a symbol of unity and progress. We thank Almighty Allah for his life and pray for more fruitful years ahead,” Ashimi said.
On his part, Hon. Hakeem Anifowoshe, who contested in the last local government chairmanship election, commended Baba Oba for his consistent efforts in community development and grassroots mobilization. He described the celebrant as “an elder statesman whose influence cuts across political divides and generations.”
