The visit, which also served as an engagement forum with residents and stakeholders, provided an avenue for the council boss to discuss the proposed expansion of the road project. The expansion, according to him, is aimed at enhancing environmental protection, improving safety standards, and ensuring the construction of efficient drainage channels linking Market Street and Odunlade Street.
Addressing residents and members of the Community Development Area (CDA), Hon. Ashimi emphasised the importance of cooperation and compliance with laid-down regulations to ensure the timely and successful completion of the project. He noted that the road expansion initiative is a strategic intervention designed to mitigate flooding, improve accessibility, and promote a cleaner and safer environment for the community.
The chairman urged residents to support the ongoing works by allowing contractors unhindered access to carry out their duties, stressing that quality infrastructure delivery requires collective responsibility and patience from all stakeholders.
“This project is not just about road construction; it is about securing the environment, safeguarding lives, and improving the overall standard of living in this community. Your cooperation is critical to achieving these objectives,” Ashimi stated.
Residents, in their responses, expressed appreciation for the council’s intervention while also raising concerns and suggestions regarding the expansion plans. The chairman assured them that their inputs would be carefully considered in the execution process.
The inspection team included key government officials such as the Leader of the 10th Legislative House, Rt. Hon. Tunde James, Deputy Leader, Hon. Ibrahim Tajudeen, Chief of Staff, Prince Sodiq Adeeso, Supervisor for Works, Hon. Alhaji Kabir Raji, Supervisor for Health, Hon. Sunday Adelaja, alongside Engineer Kunle and other council staff.
The inspection and engagement exercise underscores the Ashimi administration’s proactive approach to governance, particularly in prioritising infrastructure renewal and community-driven development across Somolu.
