The Somolu Committee of Progressive Women Association (CPWA), under the leadership of Hon. Mariam Omotanwa Salau, on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, paid a courtesy visit to the newly elected Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Lateef Ashimi, at the council secretariat.
The meeting, which was held in an atmosphere of cordiality and mutual respect, provided an opportunity for the association to congratulate Hon. Ashimi on his emergence as chairman and to pledge their support for his administration.
In her address, CPWA leader Hon. Mariam Omotanwa Salau described the visit as a significant step towards strengthening collaboration between the council and women-focused groups in the community. She commended the chairman’s antecedents as a grassroots politician and expressed optimism that his administration would prioritize initiatives that empower women and promote inclusiveness.
Responding, Hon. Lateef Ashimi appreciated the association for their visit and assured them of his readiness to work closely with progressive women in the local government to actualize his agenda of inclusive governance.
“Our administration recognizes the vital role women play in community development. We will ensure that your association is carried along in key decision-making processes and programs that directly impact families and society,” Ashimi said.
The meeting also featured discussions on possible areas of collaboration, including women’s empowerment programs, health initiatives, and educational support schemes for young girls.
Hon. Ashimi reaffirmed that his government would leave no one behind, stressing that his leadership is committed to creating opportunities for every demographic group in Somolu.
The courtesy visit ended with group photographs and goodwill messages as both parties pledged to work together for the progress and unity of the local government area.
