To alleviate poverty and unemployment, Ikosi-Isheri LCDA has joined forces with Speed Up Lagos to equip residents with valuable vocational skills. This initiative, aimed at fostering economic growth and development, offers training in various areas including Home Essentials Production, Baking and Catering, Fashion Design, Smartphone Digital Technology, Event Decoration, Leather Works, Gele Tying, and Wig Making.
Mayoress Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada praised the participants of the Skills Acquisition Programme, celebrating their achievements. In her address, she highlighted the hard work and perseverance required to complete the training, urging graduates to harness their skills to become entrepreneurs and community leaders. She also encouraged them to share their newfound knowledge with others, fostering a skill-sharing culture within the community. Princess Bada expressed her gratitude to Speed Up Lagos Anti-Poverty Squad for supporting combating poverty and uplifting lives in Ikosi-Isheri LCDA.
Princess Oluwagbemisola Ajetunmobi, Director of Speed Up Lagos, commended the success of the two-week training programme. She thanked Mayoress Bada for her support and emphasized the importance of focusing on specific skills to make the training manageable and effective. She announced plans to expand the initiative to all Local Governments and LCDAs in Lagos, acknowledging the significant investment and support from the Lagos State Government.
Wale-Ola Bello, Supervisor for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, praised the program, noting the enthusiasm and dedication of the participants. She encouraged them to use their skills to start small businesses and create sustainable ventures to support their families.
Beneficiaries like Mrs. Funke Adeoye and Olanrewaju Salamot shared their success stories, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to learn new skills and improve their livelihoods. Mrs. Adeoye, who had no prior experience in Baking and Catering, now excels in making cakes and pastries. Salamot, who learned Makeup and Gele tying, plans to offer her services professionally. Both beneficiaries expressed their appreciation to Mayoress Bada and Speed Up Lagos for the positive impact of the programme on their lives.
