Orekoya Alliance Tournament

It was a thrilling and scintillating experience at the ongoing 2nd edition Orekoya Alliance football tournament over the weekend as four teams cruised to the semifinal of the championship having proved the stuff they were made of defeating their counterparts to reach the stage.

In the first game played on Saturday between Somolu Ward C and Ward H, the Fadeyi team defeated their opponent from Ward C with 2 goals leaving the Ijebu-Tedo team with a consolation goal for their effort while Bariga Ward E’s performance made them the winners of the match trouncing Bariga Ward D in a 2-0 encounter.

Meanwhile, the Sunday showdown did not go without surprise in the game between Bajulaiye Ward F and Akoka Ward G in tension soaked match that ended in favour of the team from Ward F with the scoreline standing at 1-0 in the first match while the second match saw Bariga Ward F succumbing to the firepower of Bariga G in a 5-2 encounter.

Speaking shortly after the game, one of the match coordinators, Mr. Tunde Sulaimon described the quarterfinal matches like every other match as exciting and memorable stressing that the tournament was living up to its billing with many football talents penciled down for rewards and nurtured to greater height.

He went further, “Honestly, this is what they called grassroots football and I believe Hon. Orekoya is doing a great job. And with what I have seen so far, the tournament is no doubt living up to its billing and I’m sure football pundits, the Lagos State Football Association (LASFA), and some other relevant stakeholders are also here to pick and nurture the talents discovered here to greater height”.

Meanwhile, Olowolayamo Mubaraq from Bariga Ward G scored 6 goals followed by Stephen Aichman from Somolu Ward F with 5 goals while Odukoya Igbeke Opeyemi from Bariga Ward F netted 4 goals for his team not leaving out ThankGod Anebei from Bariga Ward D and Nkem Nnoka from Ward G who scored 2 goals each for their team.

The semifinal matches will be played on Saturday 16th December 2023 (Today) to determine the finalist of the tournament while the grand finale match will be played at the Main bowl of Yabatech Sports Complex on the 23rd December 2023.
