As part of an effort to unite the youths of the Somolu community, two of the community-based groups and popular Somolu Carnival merrymakers; Soceccan and Maga Base have set aside December 24th, 2023 for a novelty football match where they will lock horns with each other for supremacy.
According to the organizer of the unity football tournament, and the Special Adviser to Hon. AbdulHamed Salawu ‘Dullar’ on Special Duties; Hon. Wale Oseni revealed to Somolu News that the essence of the football match was to unite the youths of the community and build on the existing peace moves that already been put in place for unity, peace and harmony to take their rightful places.
He went further, “No society thrives without unity. We need unity and harmony in our community and I believe football is one vehicular factor that could do the magic and bring the youths together regardless of their age, colour, and tribe and that’s the reason I’m using sports (Football) to foster unity among the parties and bring lasting peace”.
“And talking about the involvement of the two Somolu carnival merrymakers, they’re going to be playing a pivotal role in the event as they remained the most popular and ‘must attend carnivals’ in the Somolu community capable of pulling the string. I will call them the ‘powerful crowd puller’. The more the people, the more the merrier”. He stated.
“Let me also remind you that there’s going to be a ‘Unity Walk’ currently in the pipeline with the date to be announced to further do justice to the unification process so to say”.
The President of West End Int’l Youth Organisation (United Nations and CPN recognition), however, said it’s not going to be just one one-off thing but a yearly ritual with side attractions to make the event a memorable and exciting one.
Meanwhile, Somolu elites, top government functionaries, politicians, community and religious leaders will be in attendance with maximum security in place.
