Commendation as Somolu residents complete Hepatitis B vaccination exercise.

In appreciation of his efforts to get rid of infectious diseases in the community, the beneficiaries of the Hepatitis B vaccination exercise have continued to heap praises on the Lagos House of Assembly member representing Somolu constituency I, Hon. Biodun Orekoya for facilitating the life-saving administration of the complete dose of hepatitis B vaccines.

The Vaccination exercise with the doses administered in May, June, and August respectively witnessed a mammoth crowd of residents storming the lawmaker’s constituency office to have themselves vaccinated on Thursday 25th August, 2023.

Speaking to Somolu News shortly after the exercise, one of the beneficiaries of Hon. Biodun Orekoya’s health programme, Mr. Rotimi Odugbesan poured encomium on the facilitator of the health initiative describing it as a welcome development that’ll go a long way in keeping the health status of his constituents in a good shape.

“I sincerely want to appreciate Hon. Biodun Orekoya for this ample opportunity given to us. It’s marvelous having him around seeing to the welfare of this community and wish to advise those who are yet to complete their dose to avail themselves of the opportunity at their fingertips now that it’s very close to them. I urged them to do the needful where and when necessary”.

Similarly, the administrator of the vaccine and Public Officer; Hepatitis B Department Emzor Pharmaceutical, Mrs Chineyerem congratulated those who have completed the vaccine stressing that the vaccine will protect them from being infected as she urged those who are yet to complete their dose to do so to avoid being infected as she claimed Hepatitis B infection is on the rise.

“I wish to congratulate those who have completed their dose. I want to let you know that the vaccine will protect you from being infected and I will also urge those who are yet to complete their dose to do so to avoid being infected as Hepatitis B infection is on the rise”. she advised.

In his response, Hon. Orekoya stressed the significance of maintaining good health, stating that nothing can be compared to robust health which is essential for pursuing livelihood. He admonished the residents to go for regular health check-ups, exercise, and maintain strict adherence to medical prescriptions while emphasizing that no ailment is favorable to the body.

He went further, “As a committed representative, I assure you of advocating for legislation that’ll improve the healthcare accessibility and convenience of Somolu Constituency I and Lagos State in general. I will also encourage all arms of government to ensure the well-being of the masses; while admonishing his Constituency to keep the hope of better, working, and people-oriented Renewed Hope policies. Soonest, the result of well-articulated economic policies will start yielding dividends.

Meanwhile, the disease as the World Health Organization(WHO) estimated: 296 million people were living with chronic hepatitis B infection in 2019, with over a million new infections each year. In the year under review, hepatitis B resulted in an estimated 820,000 deaths, mostly from cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (primary liver cancer).
