In order to put soccour on the faces of Alade and Olaleye traders and as well boost the commercial activities in the areas, the Executive Chairman of Somolu local government, Hon. AbdulHamed Salawu ‘Dullar’ has commenced the reconstruction of ultra-modern Alade and Olaleye Markets complex which got burnt in the year 2020 simultaneously.
Recall Olaleye market was reported to have got burnt by an electrical surge in the middle of the night when the owners of the shops were fast asleep while the Alade market was burnt down by angry youths on October 20th, 2020 during the #Endsars saga.
Although, no life was lost in the fire disaster but goods worth millions of Naira were reported to have been destroyed during the unfortunate incidents.
Meanwhile, the reconstruction exercise which is being carried out under Public Private Partnership (PPP) agreement was initiated to revitalize the markets in order to function to their intended purpose.
The ongoing projects which are expected to create job opportunities while construction is underway will give room for multipurpose use when completed.
Speaking on the fate of the traders who owned shops in the old markets, the council chairman explained that they would be considered first on completion of the market stating that the council has designed a seamless approach to ensuring that the traders get to pay for the new and modern shops in installments, adding that the exercise will be done in phases to ensure the old shop owners in the market are not displaced.
The Multiple award-winning chairman, and Agba-Akin of Agboyi-Ketu Kingdom disclosed further that the lengthy period of construction and enabling environment created was to ensure the old traders gathered enough resources to meet up with the affordable target for the new shops.
