CAF General Secretary Véron Mosengo-Omba on Friday concluded a five-day working visit in Cote d’Ivoire where he visited all the match venues that will host the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations Cote d’Ivoire 2023.
Mosengo-Omba, who was joined by the LOC Chairperson Albert François Amichia and Ivorian Football Association President Idriss Yacine Diallo, and a number of technical experts.
The delegation visited the five host cities: Abidjan, Bouaké, Korhogo, Yamoussoukro, and San Pedro. In a joint media briefing following the inspections, CAF and the LOC spoke in detail about the state of readiness and the progress made since the CAF’s last visit in the country in 2022 in the preparations.
While satisfied with the progress, Mosengo-Omba has underscored the importance of speeding up some key areas to ensure that facilities are ready ahead of the handover window.
Mosengo-Omba said: “The last five days have given me and my CAF colleagues an opportunity to visit the venues and give input on a number of areas. We note the good work that is being done by the Ivorian government, the Local Organising Committee, and FIF. We have exchanged notes, and we have spoken about areas where we are extremely happy and areas where we need to work. The good thing is, we are in agreement in all these.”
He added: “From everything I have seen, the work is progressing very well. We congratulate the authorities and their partners for these AFCON villages, which respect sustainable development since they have been designed in such a way that they can be useful beyond the competition.”
