In an effort to turn sports around in the Somolu local government area of the state, the Executive chairman of the council, Hon. AbdulHamed Salawu ‘Dullar’ has put machinery in place to ensure sports regain its lost glory through stakeholders meeting billed for Wednesday 16th of November 2022 where the bulk of the challenges will be discussed and proffer immediate solutions.
Rising from a meeting on Thursday, the chairman of the sports summit committee and Supervisory Councillor for Agric and Sports, Hon. Hector Ayo-Coker hinted that the essence of the stakeholders’ meeting is to re-awake the sporting activities which he said will go a long way in harnessing the budding talents in different sports in the community.
He continued, “This is a forum where coaches, players, administrators, government officials, sponsors, games teachers, and other stakeholders in sports will come together to brainstorm passionately about sports and find a lasting solution.” He narrated.
“Don’t forget that Somolu is the home of Table Tennis where we have top players who are making us proud at home and abroad. We want to engage, discover, and nurtured them to greater height and that we want to replicate in other sports and as well maintain and sustain the statuesque.”
“Sports is a multi-million business that if tapped into will bring fortune and pride not only to the players or athletes but the partners involved and the earlier we key into it, the better for us all.” He concluded.
The one-day stakeholders meeting tagged “Re-awakening sporting activities in Somolu Community” will be coming up at the Agunbiade Table Tennis Hall, Agunbiade, Somolu, Lagos at 11 am prompt.
Taribo West, Kanu Nwankwo, Festus Odinni, Funke Ohonaike, and Jide Omotayo among others are some of the players discovered and nurtured to stardom from the Somolu community.
