The National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, Somolu Local Branch, led by Comrade Musa Fasasi commenced the stipulated 2021 National Youth Day programmes with Sport Activities yesterday and was graced by dignitaries.
The commencement which took place at Awe Crescent in Onipanu area of Somolu saw the likes of the Vice Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Adekunle Ekiyemi, the Chairperson of the council; Hon. Mariam Salawu, the Chief Whip and the Deputy, Somolu Legislative Arm; Hon. Lateef Ashimi and Hon. Tunde James, the former Vice-President of NYCN, Southwest and Director-General of Dullar Continua Initiative; Prince Sodiq Adeeso, Somolu CDC Treasurer; Alhaji Tella Tajudeen and the erstwhile Ijebutedo Legislator; Hon. Rasak Tajudeen officially declared the event open in the midst of spectators and supporters who were awakened by the fun of the fascinating ties.
The proposed Sport activities were Football Match, Ludo and Draft games, involving players/youths across the eight zones in the community, namely Onipanu, Bashua, Ijebutedo, Orile Somolu, Okesuna Alase, Bajulaye-Folagoro, Akoka Igbari and Fadeyi.
Excitement reached fever pitch in the opening match between the youths of Fadeyi and Orile Somolu, which was more of a classic and entertaining game, with the former clinching a comfortable win over the latter in a 4-2 thriller.
Other notable guests present at the sporting event were Mrs Oladipupo Olayinka, Otunba Akatabambam, Mrs Omolara Rabiu, Mr. Waheed Bello, Mrs Maryam Bada, Comrade Asuku Ogembe, Comrade Kushimo Issah (Sport Organizers), NYCN Executives and other members.
