…as participants yearn for waste collection sites against pollution
Staying on track to achieve and earn massively from proper waste recycling management which cut across Global Sustainable Development Goals and with the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwoolu’s second pillar of T.H.E.M.E.S. agenda on Health and Environment.
The Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu has commended the International Visitor Leadership Program, IVLP team for sensitizing the citizens on Waste Recycling, in collaboration with the United States Department of State and Somolu Local Government.
With respect to the short training witnessed on the aforesaid, the Chairman incited the Citizens to show more creativity to rake in from the lucrative business as its environmental importance also helps minimize pollution caused by waste; preserve energy and natural resources; reduces the need for waste materials and waste products in landfills.
In reminiscence, Thursday, April 22, 2021, marks the second time the IVLP President, Mrs. Adetoun Adetade would led her team to the community, following the enlightenment session they had with the Stakeholders and residents on Rape, Child Molestation and Domestic, as held on the 9th of April, 2021.
The IVLP’s Executive Director on Recycle-Point, Mr Taiwo Adewole engaged the participants interactively on how to create wealth through zero waste, citing the Lagos State Recycling Policy as a guide and used his experience in the business to counsel people on making daily profits rather than seeking assistance often from politicians.
This was followed by practicals on recycling local production stages by the Chief Executive Officer of Ivarest Eco Bricks, Mr Akpo Tivere Everest. The excitement of attending the programme motivated each persons in craving for permanent sites for waste collection and production; and intensive mentorship on recycling.
Meanwhile, in the Akoka-Igbari area of Somolu, at the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu Square (Ojo Square), Recycle Points Foundation led by Mr. Taiwo Adewole and its facilitator, Miss Victoria Onigbinde staged Drop Off Recycling Initiative (DORI) Project, where they exchanged huge collection of waste products brought in by people to instant cash.
The Local Government representatives present were Hon. Afolabi Ayodele (Chief of Staff), Hon. Muse Bakare and Comrade Oluwarotimi Oluyede (Supervisor and Special Adviser on Environment); Hon. Adewale Oseni and Mr. Oladipo Freeman (Supervisor and HOD on Agric and Social Services), Hon. Olumide Akinola (Supervisor for Health), Alhaji Abdul-Kabir Raji (Supervisor for Works and Infrastructure), Alhaja Surakat Adetutu (Supervisor on Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation), Comrade Raheem Afees (Special Adviser on Food Security), Chief Adedapo Odugbuwa (CDC Chairman), Comrade Musa Fasasi led NYCN Somolu Executives and Akoka-Igbari Community Leaders.
