Somolu People Democratic Party (PDP) chairman and the Chairman of Jackal Ventures, Hon. Niyi Osibemekun has rolled out the drum in remembrance of his late parents with a special prayer session held at his residence in adherence to COVID-19 compliance.
Speaking to Somolu Newspaper at his residence, he described his parents as worthy and noble personalities whose characters and lives are worthy of emulations.
“My father in particular was a very good man, he taught me quite a lot of things when I was much younger. I picked a lot from him while my mother was a very agile businesswoman of first grade. She was the “Iya Egbe” of Alade Market when she was alive. There were a lot of things I picked from them and most of these things I reference them and I try to teach other younger ones coming behind, the need to have a planned life”.
“So, anytime I sit down and remember how far I have gone in life, I never forget to remember my parents because most of those things I do or learned are from them, so, today, I chose that yes, I must honour these two great souls that walked on this planet earth. My father died in 1956 and my mother joined her husband in 1972”.
“I must tell them that though, they’re gone but their names are not. They’re still loved and they’ll be forever be loved and remembered. I feel so honoured today, in fact, there’re signs that they’re grateful that I remember them today.
Meanwhile, the PDP scribe has described the just-ended year 2020 as a horrible year that will never be forgotten in the anal of history in Nigeria and the world at large.
Osibemekun revealed that the year 2020 was a year that brought upon people, sadness, and sorrow where people died and businesses ruined as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic that ravaged the world like wildfire.
He stressed further, “The Year 2020 has gone and gone for good. It was a bad year that will never come back. It was a miserable year that made people lose not only their job but have their lives cut short coupled with herdsmen, kidnapping and Boko-Haram challenges, it was a bad year indeed and we don’t pray for that to happen again”. he lamented
“And looking at 2021, we’re praying for unity in this country. We’re praying for our President, Muhammad Buhari, the defense and security agents to wake up because it seems everyone is asleep and those who don’t want to sleep are forced to sleep”.
“Everything seems to be stagnant. The year where economy becomes unpredictable, the year where no one is sure of what’ll happen the next hour, not even the next day, the year where people died for whatever reason one cannot adduce, it was a bad year”. he stated
The former Palnapina Regional Chief Accountant, however, urged the government and Nigerians to be more focused and prudent saying there’s no way people will not experience the negative effects of 2020 in 2021.
“Businesses don’t just grow in one day. People should approach New year with confidence and trust that things will be better. I’ll also want to implore people not to be hopeless because hopelessness doesn’t create anything positive but the only thing that creates positivity is being hopeful. I expect people to fight it off with the consciousness of survivability”.
“Though 2021 is a year coming after 2020 but I don’t expect things to quickly get rosy as I advise people to face the challenges with all the seriousness and in doing that, we must be united to solve the challenges we’re facing at the moment”. he echoed
In conclusion, he advised Nigerians to adhered strictly to COVID-19 instructions by the government.
“Unfortunately, in this part of the world, particularly our own place here, I don’t know whether there’s a magic here that makes people not to believe the virus is real because people are ignorant of it to the extent that the pastors that were preaching about it in March/April no longer take all the necessary precautions and even the Policemen that are supposed to enforce the using of facemasks are not doing so”.
“Maybe, they’re probably doing it on the trust of faith, they’re being careless. I’m imploring people to keep to physical distancing, keep washing their hands, gaggle with hot water, and not do away with all those immune foods like ginger, garlic, lemon drinks and the rest of them”.
