Hon. Sofola completes door-to-door distribution of relief packages in Kosofe, reaches out to Ogudu, ifako and Oworonsoki residents

The Executive Chairman of Kosofe Local Government Hon. Afolabi Sofola has finally completed rounds of his door-to-door distribution of emergency relief materials in Kosofe Local Government Area with the distribution of stimulus packages to Ogudu, Ifako, Araromi and Oworonsoki residents.

Thousands of relief materials consisting of a pack of 5kg of rice, 5kg of beans, a packet of noodles and two hand sanitizers were distributed to the vulnerable, the aged and have-nots by the council boss who on April 18 and 19 moved street to street from Ogudu, Ifako, Araromi to Oworonsoki in the company of Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Abayomi Ologbonori; Chief of Staff, Fatai Gbadebo; Supervisor for Agric/social, Hon.Oyeyemi Oyetayo, Supervisor for Revenue, Hon.Dare Osinowo and CDC chairman, Hon. Segun Babatunde.

Others members of the distribution team are Hon. Ibraheem Bakare Olawale, Hon. Sunday Omofojoye, Hon. Bolaji Kareem Hon. Hon.Kehinde Saliu and Chief Omowo.

In an interview with newsmen Hon. Sofola explained that the palliative exercise was being done to complement the efforts of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Senator Adebayo Osinowo whom he commended for providing far-reaching relief packages to the masses.

He stated that his administration was very conscious of the hardships and sufferings confronting the residents of the area as a result of the lockdown, he said hence the purpose of reaching out to the residents most especially the vulnerable, widows, the elderly and the unemployed to forestall the lockdown degenerating into robbery, theft and fraudulent acts.

He reiterated that the relief materials distribution exercise would be a continuous one as the local government would strive to provide succour one way or another to the residents until the end of the lockdown.

His words: “A lot of people live day in day out. It is the work they do in a day that they feed on. What do you want them to do? And they must feed. They’re hungry. The Local Government must go out and give them food.

“We did phase 1 last week and we are doing phase 2 today. It’s going to be a continuous exercise. So we are trying to provide food for the people because there’s no money. That’s the essence of this programme.”

Meanwhile, beneficiaries of the relief materials have lauded the humanitarian gestures of the council chairman. They expressed great joy and appreciation on receiving their packs of relief materials.

In his remark, the CDC Chairman of Kosofe Local Government Area Hon. Segun Babatunde who was part of the distribution team stated that the succour provided by the council chairman to the people was a welcome development because of the excruciating lockdown which is taking its toll on the people
