The President of the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF), Dr Patrice Motsepe, has announced a major increase in prize money for the winner of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025, with the champions set to receive a record USD 10 million.
Dr Motsepe announced on Saturday, after a meeting of the CAF Executive Committee (EXCO) held in Rabat, Morocco, just a day before the kick-off of the tournament.
According to the CAF President, the USD 10 million prize represents a significant 43 per cent increase from the USD 7 million awarded to champions of the 2023 AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire. The latest increment also highlights a remarkable growth in tournament rewards over the years.
At the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON Cameroon 2021, the eventual winners received USD 5 million. With the prize money now doubled to USD 10 million in 2025, the development marks a 100 per cent increase within four years, underscoring CAF’s commitment to improving the competitiveness and commercial value of African football.
A breakdown of the historic rise in AFCON prize money shows steady progress: USD 5 million in 2021, USD 7 million in 2023, and USD 10 million in 2025.
In addition, the runners-up at the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON Morocco 2025 will earn USD 4 million, while the two losing semi-finalists will each receive USD 2.5 million.
The latest announcement has been widely hailed as a major milestone for African football, reflecting CAF’s ongoing efforts to reward excellence and elevate the global status of the continent’s premier football competition.
