…a literary gathering for Poets and Storytellers
The literary community in Lagos is set to witness a refreshing wave of creative expression as the Neighbourhood Poetry Connect makes its official debut in Ajegunle, Lagos on Friday, April 18, 2025.
This groundbreaking initiative invites poets, storytellers, literary enthusiasts, and lovers of poetry and storytelling to gather for what promises to be a vibrant celebration of words, culture, and connection.
According to organizers, the event is part of a longstanding commitment to nurturing Nigeria’s literary space, a passion that has spanned over a decade.
Driven by the shared vision of Eriata Oribhabor and Aj Dagga Tolar, the Neighbourhood Poetry Connect aims to bridge gaps among writers and readers by connecting talents at the grassroots level. It will initially focus on reaching out to neighbourhoods across Lagos and its environs, with the goal of building a strong and organic community of literary voices.
“There is a poet down your street,” says Oribhabor, encouraging people to explore the creativity around them and join the movement. Participation in the Connect is free, and interested groups are encouraged to reach out directly to the organizers for more information and inclusion.
The launch in Ajegunle marks the beginning of what many believe will be a transformative journey for Nigeria’s literary culture, one neighbourhood at a time.
