The programme, tagged “ASYST Innovation (Ashimi Somolu Youth Science Technology),” is designed to inspire young people to embrace innovation, science, technology and digital creativity while preparing them for future academic and career opportunities in the rapidly evolving global digital landscape.
Speaking during the official launch of the programme, Hon. Ashimi reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to investing in education, innovation and youth development, describing technology as one of the most powerful tools for economic empowerment and sustainable development.
According to the council chairman, the initiative is part of his administration’s broader agenda to bridge the digital divide by providing students with practical ICT knowledge, coding skills, digital literacy and exposure to emerging technologies.
He noted that the world is increasingly driven by technology, making it imperative for young people to acquire relevant digital competencies that will enable them to compete favourably both locally and internationally.
“Education remains one of our greatest priorities, and in today’s world, digital literacy is no longer optional but essential. Through ASYST Innovation, we are allowing our students to develop the technological skills that will position them for future success,” Ashimi said.
He added that the programme would also encourage creativity, innovation and critical thinking among students, enabling them to become solution providers rather than job seekers.
Ashimi stressed that empowering the younger generation with technological knowledge aligns with the Lagos State Government’s vision of building a smart city while supporting the Federal Government’s drive towards digital transformation and youth empowerment.
The chairman urged students to take full advantage of the opportunity by remaining committed throughout the training, noting that the skills acquired could become the foundation for successful careers in technology, engineering, software development, cybersecurity and other digital professions.
The leader of the House, Councillors, teachers and parents present at the launch commended the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that would expose students to the limitless opportunities available in the digital economy.
They applauded the council chairman for prioritising educational development and investing in programmes capable of transforming the lives of young people in Somolu.
Participants expressed excitement over the commencement of the programme, promising to make the most of the training and apply the knowledge gained to improve their academic performance and future career prospects.
The launch of TechSpark 3.0 – ASYST Innovation (Ashimi Somolu Youth Science Technology) further reinforces the Ashimi administration’s commitment to building a digitally inclusive Somolu by nurturing the next generation of innovators, scientists, software developers and technology entrepreneurs.
The initiative is expected to benefit hundreds of students across public and private schools within Somolu Local Government, while strengthening the council’s reputation as one of the leading local government areas championing digital education and youth empowerment in Lagos State.
