The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos Sector Command, has expressed serious concern over a series of road traffic incidents recorded across Lagos State on Saturday, 20th June, 2026, reiterating the need for motorists and passengers to save their lives by adhering strictly to traffic regulations and maintaining their vehicles, while passengers identify and report drivers who aren’t ready to abide.
These incidents, involved route violation, brake failure, overloading, and a fatal hit-and-run crash which occurred in different parts of the State.
At about 10:34hrs along the Badagry–Agbara corridor, a multiple-vehicle crash involving a Toyota RAV4 and a Toyota Camry occurred at Badagry Barracks. Preliminary investigation revealed that the crash was caused by a route violation. Although seven persons, comprising three male adults and four female adults, were involved, no injury or fatality was recorded. The vehicles were subsequently removed from the roadway, and normal traffic flow was restored.
In a separate incident recorded at about 2:40 pm around Otedola Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, a male adult lost his life in a fatal hit-and-run crash. FRSC rescue operatives responded promptly to the scene and coordinated efforts for evacuation. The Command strongly condemns the act of fleeing the scene of a crash and urges motorists to always act responsibly in the event of any incident.
Similarly, at about 3:10 pm, a multiple-car crash involving two private cars and a containerised Mack truck occurred opposite Otedola Estate along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Preliminary findings indicate that the crash resulted from brake failure. Fortunately, no casualties were recorded. FRSC personnel, alongside other traffic management agencies, immediately commenced traffic control and clearance operations to prevent further obstruction.
The Command also recorded cases of overloading during routine patrol operations, reinforcing the Corps’ ongoing enforcement against the dangerous practice of carrying passengers and goods beyond approved vehicle capacity.
Reacting to the incidents, the Lagos State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde G. Hamzat, emphasised that most road traffic crashes are preventable and often result from human errors such as speeding, route violation, overloading, poor vehicle maintenance, and reckless driving.
The Sector Commander further appealed to all road users to cooperate with FRSC personnel and other traffic management agencies working tirelessly to ensure safer roads across Lagos State.
The Command reassures members of the public of its commitment to prompt rescue services, effective traffic management, public enlightenment, and strict enforcement of traffic regulations aimed at reducing road traffic crashes and saving lives.
