Lagos set to host Skate Lagos 3.0 as grassroots sports initiative gains momentum

As a way of boosting grassroots sports in the state, Sporty Lagos, in alignment with the T.H.E.M.E + Agenda of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, will be hosting the third edition of the skateboarding competition scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at the iconic National Stadium Surulere, Lagos, with activities expected to commence by 9:00 a.m.

The initiative is being driven through the office of the Senior Assistant to the Governor on Grassroots Sports Development, Mr Adebanji Adeoye, in collaboration with Sporty Lagos Naija, with the primary aim of discovering, nurturing, and showcasing emerging Nigerian talents in skateboarding and related urban sports.

With the theme “Rolling Into The Future,” the programme is designed to highlight youth creativity, resilience, and innovation within the sporting ecosystem. Organisers emphasised that the event will not only serve as a competitive and recreational platform but also promote national pride by bringing together young athletes from across communities.

The initiative is part of broader efforts by the Lagos State Government to deepen grassroots sports development, create opportunities for youth engagement, and position Lagos as a hub for alternative and urban sports in Nigeria.

Participants and spectators can expect a vibrant atmosphere featuring skilled skateboarders, BMX riders, and other urban sports enthusiasts, alongside opportunities for networking, mentorship, and exposure.

Stakeholders believe that Skate Lagos 3.0 will further consolidate the state’s commitment to youth empowerment through sports, while also providing a springboard for talented individuals to gain recognition on both national and international stages.
