The early-morning exercise, which drew participation from key council officials, environmental health officers, and security personnel, aimed to ensure strict compliance with sanitation regulations and assess the level of environmental cleanliness on major streets and inner roads within the locality.
Moving through strategic points in Fadeyi and adjoining neighbourhoods, Hon. Ashimi and his team carried out on-the-spot inspections of drainage systems, waste disposal practices, and general environmental conditions. The Chairman emphasised the importance of maintaining a clean and healthy environment, noting that environmental sanitation remains a collective responsibility of both the government and residents.
During the inspection, residents and traders were sensitised on proper waste management practices, including the need to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drainage channels and unauthorised locations. The council boss reiterated his administration’s zero-tolerance stance on environmental infractions, warning that defaulters would face appropriate sanctions in accordance with environmental laws.
Hon. Ashimi also used the opportunity to engage Community Development Associations (CDAs) and market leaders, urging them to sustain the culture of cleanliness beyond the monthly sanitation exercise. He stressed that regular upkeep of the environment would not only enhance public health but also contribute to the overall aesthetic and economic value of the community.
The exercise further provided the council leadership with firsthand insights into areas requiring urgent government intervention, particularly in drainage maintenance and waste evacuation. Residents, in turn, commended the chairman for his hands-on approach and visible commitment to grassroots development.
