…donates sanitation tools to the Market Association
The Lagos Division Ibile Youth Academy Ambassadors were on proper track yet again with their selfless community services rendered routinely in the city of Lagos.
This time, the drive was to Oyingbo Market, where the Ambassadors were spotted engaging the Traders on waste management, majorly on maintaining absolute purity and promote optimum hygiene within their respective quarters in the market.
It was more of an interactive colloquy on Saturday, February 8, as the attendees among the traders expressed deep concerns over major challenges they have been encountering, especially in the rainy season, which they felt their Market TaskForces won’t be able to resolve alone without the help of the Lagos State Government.
Among the raised observations, was the poor drainage system, which they feared could cause more flooding this year. Also, they implored the government to provide them with waste containers at each junction of the market, to ensure appropriate disposal of wastes and to prevent the spread of wastes to the nearby gutters. Monthly Environmental Sanitation, Frequent Sensitization, Adequate Drainage System and Provision of advanced Sanitation Tools and Equipment made the lists of other needs, the Market Association requested from the Lagos State Government.
On hearing the feedbacks, the Lagos Division Environmental Champions promised to deliver their messages back to the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Social Development, for the Ministry to present it through the rightful channel before the Lagos State Government and make expeditious amends.
After much deep thought conversations, the Ambassadors then presented to the Market Association, New Set of Broomsticks, Dustpans, Plastic Leaf Rakes and Metal Rakes, Big Waste Container, Disposable Nylons and Cleaning Brushes, as a means of contributing to the development of the market and ensure it’s secured.
Stickers indicating how to curb wastes were also pasted to each pillar in the market, to enlighten and advocate for thorough waste management.
