The Unity Community Development Association (CDA) in Somolu Local Government has been thrown into mourning following the passing of its 3rd Vice-Chairman, Mr Abayomi Odumade, fondly known as “Yomite.”
Mr Osunmade reportedly died on Thursday, February 11, 2026, at the age of 76 years after a brief illness, according to a family source who confirmed the sad development. His sudden demise has left family members, friends, political associates, and residents of the community in deep shock, Somolu news reports.
Until his death, Odumade was a committed executive member of Unity CDA, which comprises Ogunbadejo Street, Duru Close, Akanni Street and Aiyepe Avenue, where he served diligently as Vice-Chairman. Known for his calm disposition, humility, and unwavering dedication to grassroots development, he was widely respected for his contributions to community growth and harmony.
A family source, who announced his passing on Thursday, described the late Odumade as a devoted family man and a passionate community leader whose love for people and service to humanity stood him apart. The source added that his passing is a painful loss not only to the immediate family but also to the entire Somolu community.
Residents of Unity CDA and beyond have continued to pour in tributes, recalling his active involvement in community meetings, developmental initiatives, and efforts geared towards maintaining peace and unity among residents. Many described him as approachable, selfless, and always willing to lend a helping hand.
Colleagues within the association noted that Odumade played a significant role in strengthening the administrative structure of the CDA and fostering cooperation among members. His leadership style, they said, was inclusive and driven by the collective interest of the community.
As news of his death spread, sympathisers trooped to his residence to commiserate with the family, offering prayers and words of comfort during this difficult time.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in due course.
