…charged students to be determined and desist from the act of indiscipline
The Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu, in fulfilling his campaign promises in the education sector, rolled out over 200 forms for applicants of Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) organized by Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB).
Presenting the forms to the 2020 JAMB/UTME candidates, the Mayor charged youths to be determined and do their parents and community proud by coming out in flying colours in the Nationwide examination which will enable them to pursue their chosen course at the higher institutions.
The free forms were distributed to mostly indigent students who met Ordinary Level requirement of five credits including English Language and Mathematics from the free WAEC/GCE form distributed by Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu last year.
Adekoya Oladimeji (18) and Ogunlaya Ololade (17) who spoke on behalf of other beneficiaries of the JAMB/UTME for, assured the Mayor that has they have done well in the last WAEC/GCE, they will do better in the JAMB/UTME and they will soon bring their University’s admission letters to the Executive Chairman for appreciation.
However, Mr. Lai Giwa (Council-Manager), Hon. Adewale Oseni (Supervisory Councilor for Agric & Community Service), Hon. Lateef Ashimi (Special Adviser on Education) and Mrs. F. Hamzat (HOD Education) were also with the education loving Mayor, Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu during the presentation of the free JAMB/UTME forms.
Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu also enjoined the JAMB/UTME applicants to be aware of the bursary fund for Somolu residents who are students of Higher Institutions. “If you do well in your examination and secure admission into Higher Institution, you will be among the beneficiaries of the periodical bursary funds for Higher Institution Students in Somolu”, Dullar said.
